Made in Germany
Unfortunately, the term “Made in Germany” is no longer clearly defined, since products for which individual components or even entire assemblies are purchased abroad may now also be described as “Made in Germany”. Made in Germany” is thus also defined as products for which only the final assembly takes place in the factory in Germany.
The claim of Gebr. Knapstein GmbH, however, is a higher one here. As a member of the Verband Deutsche Manufakturen, the following criteria must be met:
- Craft enterprises with registered office in Germany
- Craft production must take place in Germany
- at least 50 % of the production is handmade
- Company size between 5 and 200 employees
- Owner-run
- Essentiality of the product
- Qualified training of young talents
- Promotion of the respective craftsmanship and culture
All these criteria were reviewed and certified by the association in a one-day audit in January 2019.
