After halogen lamps, fluorescent tubes are now also being banned. With mercury-free LED lamps, however, there are already good, energy-efficient alternatives without pollutants. The sales ban will apply to compact fluorescent lamps and ring lights from February 2023 and to fluorescent tubes from August 2023.<\/p>\n\n

What is called “phasing out” is nothing more than a gradual ban on the sale of lamps due to stricter guidelines. The phase-out has now gained additional momentum with the RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic Equipment). It prohibits – with a few exceptions – the use of mercury in light bulbs for reasons of health and environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n

Thus, the lack of energy efficiency of old lamps is no longer the sole argument for switching to more environmentally friendly and efficient LED lamps.<\/p>\n\n
